Designing the Ideal Home Office

April 14th, 2016 | Higgins Group Real Estate

When you’re working at home, you need a comfortable place where you can be efficient and productive.

Those who work from home may sometimes find themselves getting distracted by other activities in the household, that’s why a working space that is effectively separated from the home environment is essential.

Need some help designing the perfect home office? Here are a few great tips:

Keep all work-related items strictly within your home office

Always remember to have all your work-related items within your working space, so everything will be easier to find and retrieve. This can make you more efficient as well, as you won’t need to search all over the house to find certain items.

It’s also important to keep non-office space free from work items – this will promote a healthy balance, and prevent you from thinking about work during your off hours.

Make sure your home office is well-lit

Natural daylight is the best solution for any working area as it is the most balanced source of white light available. In case making use of natural light is not an option, you need a combination of general and task lighting. Look for a high-quality task light that can help you get some work done during nighttime or on particularly cloudy days.

Privacy is key

Your home office must be free from noise and other interruptions. One solution is to simply use headphones. But if the thought of wearing headphones all day doesn’t appeal to you, you can look for air filters or low fans that can provide a degree of white noise that can “block” other noises.

Make sure you enjoy being there

While a home office should be free of distractions, it also needs to be place you enjoy staying in. The great thing about having a home office is it doesn’t have to look like a boring work area — you’re free to give it any appearance you want!
