Westport Country Playhouse is one of the go-to destinations in Fairfield County for high-quality theater productions and other special events. With their 2018 season currently underway, let’s take a look at the remainder of productions you can still watch.
Man of La Mancha
An award-winning theater production (it won five Tony awards, including Best Musical), Man of La Mancha is set to shake the halls of Westport Country Playhouse.
Man of La Mancha tells the story of “mad” Don Quixote as he tilts his way to glory and the love of his fair maiden. The story is told through a “play within a play” setting, with Don Quixote writing his work as he sits and waits for his trial with the Spanish Inquisition. The musical was written by Dale Wasserman, with the music and lyrics written by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion, respectively.
Catch Westport Country Playhouse’s take on Man of La Mancha, directed by Mark Lamos. It will run from September 25 to October 13, 2018. Get your tickets here.
Thousand Pines
Westport Country Playhouse is proud to present Thousand Pines on its world premiere.
Incubated by Playhouse’s New Works Circle Initiative, Thousand Pines is a riveting drama set on the halls of Thousand Pines Junior High School, as well as the homes of its students. It tells the aftermath of a school shooting, following students and families affected as they deal with the trauma and heartbreak caused by the event.
More importantly, Thousand Pines brings to the forefront the topic of gun control and gun violence. The production is set to be thought-provoking and eye-opening.
Thousand Pines is written by Matthew Greene, with the production directed by Austin Pendleton. It will have its run in the Playhouse from October 30 to November 17, 2018. You can purchase your tickets here.
The Pianist of Willesden Lane
Inspiring and sensational, The Pianist of Willesden is set to take center stage at the Playhouse before the year ends.
This musical, based on the book written by Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen, follows the story of 14-year-old Lisa Jura. Lisa is a young Jewish girl and piano prodigy who chases her dreams amidst the threat of war, traveling from Vienna to London during the height of the Second World War.
What makes The Pianist of Willesden Lane even more compelling is that it’s actually the story of Mona Golabek’s own mother. Described to be deeply affecting and heartwarming, The Pianist of Willesden Lane is a real treat.
Catch Mona Golabek as The Pianist of Willesden Lane at the Playhouse from December 5 to 22, 2018. For tickets, visit this page.
