Design ideas for your Southport, CT Waterfront Home

Are you a proud owner of a new waterfront home in Southport, CT? While the panoramic water views may already be worth the price, you may want to consider sprucing up your interiors as well, so you get a relaxing atmosphere that complements the incredible scenery.
  • Make your windows focal points – Consider installing wood shutters, vertical blinds, or light-colored drapes for your windows. These can allow plenty of natural light to flow through, and are easy to use as well – keep them open if you want to enjoy the views, or closed if you’d like to have some privacy.
  • Use muted color schemes – Bright, neon colors can work well in most interiors, but try to avoid using them in rooms with waterfront views. Instead, it’s better to use more natural, softer color palettes. The best colors to use are pastel greens and blues, cream shades, soft purples, or other mute shades. You can add bolder, deeper tones as accents, to create a look with some character.
  • Place your furniture strategically – Arranging your furniture a certain way can highlight the beautiful views. For example, large pieces like sofas can be placed to create a line that directs the eye to the windows. This is better than simply turning your couch so that it faces the windows directly – it will naturally draw the eye to the view, making it the focal point of the room. The same trick applies to dining rooms, home offices, and bedrooms as well.
  • Be subtle – Your waterfront views are your primary feature, so avoid using water-inspired décor in large quantities. Instead, try to use them as inspiration. You can use a sandy texture for window treatments, bowls made of shells or sea glass, coffee tables made of driftwood, lake stones, and other ocean/water-inspired pieces that don’t appear too heavy-handed.
