Norwalk Symphony OrchestraThe Norwalk Symphony Orchestra offers several unique programs for young musicians, providing them with opportunities where they can improve their skills and showcase their musical talents.

(Not) Just For Kids

The (Not) Just For Kids program is a fun and educational way to get kids into music. Members of the orchestra will be available to play in front of the children, tell them all about their instruments, answer questions, and offer helpful advice.

The presentations include all instrument families: brass, percussion, strings, and woodwinds. At the end of each program, all attendees get to handle and try to play a beginner-level instrument in a segment called “Petting Zoo.”

Programs that cover the strings and percussion instrument families are already completed. The horns program is scheduled for March 4, 2017, while the winds program will be on May 6, 2017.

Young Artists Festival

The Young Artists Festival is a unique program dedicated to young musicians. The 2017 program opens the Festival level to wind players, and worksheets will now be available for students preparing for the theory test.

The festival takes place on January 28-29, 2017 at the Norwalk City Hall. The Concerto Competition, which takes place on January 29, is open to Fairfield County residents only. A video submission will be required for entry, and all finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the live round.

The Junior Competition is open for string and wind students who have studied privately for four or more years and are under the age of 15, while the Senior Competition is open to those who have studied privately for six or more years and are under 18.
