With Trumbull often considered as a bedroom community, it is easy to dismiss the town as anything but. What most outsiders do not know, however, is that Trumbull is packed with hidden gems that you can enjoy with the whole family. Here are some of our favorites.
- Hike the Pequonnock River Trail.
Trumbull is a great place to start if you are interested in checking out the Pequonnock River Trail. It is friendly enough for beginners to the point that you can bring a jogging stroller along for the hike. Bigger kids who are not interested in walking can also bring their bikes and ride throughout the path that extends to the town of Monroe.
If your kids are older and more adventurous, the Pequonnock River Trail also holds plenty of potential. You can move on to the more advanced parts, especially if your kids are in great physical shape. There are even spots along the river trail where you can jump down to the cool river water during the summer.
- Hang out at Kaechele Park.
Kaechele Park has pristine open fields where you can let the younger ones play to their hearts’ content. You can even join in on the fun and play team games or sports. When the weather is agreeable, bust down those kites and teach the kids how to fly one successfully.
- Visit the Trumbull Nature and Arts Center.
Your kids will enjoy art with a (nature) twist at the Trumbull Nature and Arts Center. The facility offers a variety of extra-curricular programs, from nature immersions to other field trips.
- Play and take care of baby animals at the Trumbull Agriscience & Biotechnology Center.
A visit to the Agriscience & Biotechnology Center in Daniels Farm can serve as a great introduction to agriculture. Kids will definitely be in on a learning experience as they learn how to interact and take care of the animals in the center.
- Play soccer at Indian Ledge Park…
Indian Ledge Park is home to a great soccer field where you and your kids (or younger siblings) can try to score some goals. Some teams practice here, so check ahead if the field is currently being used.
- … Or practice your BMX skills!
Are you or any of the young ones interested in BMX racing? Indian Ledge Park also offers a family-friendly facility where you or the kids can practice and develop their cycling skills.
- Go on an ice cream or fro-yo date.
Everyone loves ice cream, especially kids! Sunny Daes in Trumbull Shopping Center is the go-to spot in town for some nice scoops of frozen goodness.
- Celebrate fall at Plasko’s Farm.
As the leaves turn golden, Plasko’s Farm busies itself with its annual Fall Festival. The kids (and the kids-at-heart) will enjoy the variety of attractions, which include pumpkins and scarecrow making. There is also plenty of apple cider donuts (which Plasko’s Farm is known) to go around all throughout the year.
- Bounce around at the Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Park.
Trampoline parks are all the rage right now, and Trumbull has its very own facility. The trampoline park is great for bundles of energy! You and the kids can play dodgeball, try to score some hoops at the dunk zone, or climb some heights at the wall.
- Sign up the kids for a class at the Insports Center.
The Insports Center at Trumbull is a state-of-the-art space that covers over 100,000 square feet of floor area. There are a wide range of camps and sport league programs available, with some activities even specifically designed for toddlers. The kids will definitely have a good time here.
