The Easton Lifestyle

The close proximity to major metropolitan areas is one of the driving factors for so many multi-national corporations’ and Fortune 500s’ relocation of their headquarters to Fairfield County. Easton, however, is several degrees quieter and more serene than its surrounding communities. While it’s located near several major highways, including Merritt Parkway, Interstate 95, State Route 8, and U.S. Routes 6 and 7, the town is something of a rural enclave and is home to over 20 working farms.

Easton is on the Aspetuck River, along which you’ll find the 80-acre Aspetuck Historic District, a small part of which is in neighboring Weston. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the district is the oldest part of Easton and is where you’ll find remarkably well-preserved homes that date back to Revolutionary days, one of which was Helen Keller’s.

Most of the town, in fact, feels like it’s been suspended in time. There are hardly any commercial establishments here and lots are larger than they are in other nearby communities. Lots in much of Easton need to be a minimum of three acres, though there’s a small portion where one-acre lots are allowed. This has helped preserve the town’s bucolic feel, as has the presence of two reservoirs – the Easton and Hemlock reservoirs, which has resulted in more than a third of the town’s land being set aside for preservation. The Saugatuck Reservoir serves as the town’s northwestern border.

Recreational Opportunities

Easton is a thriving community that offers a number of recreational opportunities. It has a very active arts organization, the Easton Arts Council, as well as an Arts Center. There are three parks – Aspetuck, Helen Keller and Veteran’s – and the Old Staples School Complex has little league and soccer fields as well as tennis courts, a walking track, and a playscape. Residents also enjoy fishing, golfing, and even downhill skiing during the winter months.
