Founded in 1639, Stratford is a quiet, charming seaside town, rich in history and abundant natural beauty. Situated on Long Island Sound, bounded to the east by the Housatonic River, Stratford is the easternmost town in Fairfield County.

The town is easily accessible to I-95 and the Merritt Parkway, offering convenient travel in all directions. There is a local Metro North train station providing service to Grand Central Station in New York. Sikorsky Memorial Airport in town offers commuter flights; Tweed-New Haven Regional and Westchester County Airports are less than an hour away; and La Guardia and JFK International Airports are a bit farther.

Well-known for its production of machine products, chemicals, and hardware, Stratford became the birthplace of the American helicopter industry when in 1939, a Russian immigrant, Igor Sikorsky, successfully flew the first helicopter at his Stratford-based aircraft plant. Sikorsky Aircraft, the world’s leading helicopter manufacturer, still designs and produces state-of-the art helicopters for both military and commercial applications at its manufacturing facility on Stratford’s north side.
