Visit Discovery Adventure Park

If you’re in the mood to experience something unique and wonderful, head on over to The Discovery Museum along Park Avenue in Bridgeport. Just behind the Museum building, you’ll find The Adventure Park, an “aerial forest ropes park” in a lush woodland extending across five acres. It’s the first of its kind in Connecticut and is the largest in New England.

Connecting with the outdoors

The park is operated by Outdoor Ventures who want to promote fun, healthy, challenging, and confidence-building activities in the midst of the wonder and beauty of nature. The group also designed and built the park, inspired by adventure parks in Europe as well as a passion for creating outdoor experiences that help people reconnect with nature.

Explore at your own pace

The Adventure Park has 180 platforms high up in the trees that are linked together by a network of cable, wood, and rope to form 161 bridges with 21 zip lines.

You’ll climb a ladder to the main platform, which branches off into 11 separate aerial trails through the trees. These trails are color coded according to difficulty levels, ranging from beginner to advanced, with each bridge presenting a different challenge of how to get to the next platform.

You can select the trail you want and climb at your own pace. Keep in mind that there’s no rush; you are not timed to finish the trails, and there is no “right” way of crossing the bridges. You just have to take your time and find your own way to proceed from platform to platform until you reach the end.

Safe

All visitors receive a complete safety orientation before they climb, and everyone has to wear a safety harness throughout their time in the trees. The park uses a double-connected, always-locked-on climbing system. This helps keep the climbing harness securely attached to the safety line at all times, and prevents the danger of becoming detached from a safety line while in the trees. Park Guides are always available to assist throughout your visit.

Environmentally friendly

While a relatively new concept in the USA, the Aerial Forest Park has been popular for some time now in countries like Austria, England, France, Germany, and Switzerland. These types of parks have practically zero environmental impact, and the trees are well cared for.

The Adventure Park is a great way to spend a day of active fun with your family and friends. Through this experience, everyone becomes involved in healthy outdoor activities, building strength, endurance, and confidence together.
