Getting to know your neighbors will make relocating to an unfamiliar place a lot easier. They can also give you important insight regarding your neighborhood, especially if they’ve been living in the area for a long period of time.

If you’re not comfortable with that, you can go online and check reputable websites like City-Data, Homefacts, Livability, and AreaVibes to know more about your new neighborhood.
Other sites that might prove helpful in your research include GreatSchools, CrimeReports, and NeighborhoodScout. Hopefully, you’ll find information that will give you some peace of mind.
- Get in touch with a professional.
A real estate agent with expert knowledge of the area will be able to help you get acquainted with your new neighborhood. A highly professional and experienced Realtor will be able to tell you a lot of things, from market updates, to schools, and other background information.
Things to watch out for
As you drive or walk around the neighborhood, take note of the following:
- “For sale” signs on lawns
- Abandoned or boarded-up homes in the immediate vicinity
- Trash
- Its location — is it located close to a commercial area?
- Neighborhood parks (and how well they are maintained)
- Parking restrictions
